Marie Lang

Since I was a little girl, I have always had an interest in helping people. As I grew up, I became fascinated with the law. I attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia for my undergraduate education where I majored in Criminal Justice and received a minor in Political Science. While, in school, I interned in one of the local proscecutor’s offices and tutored children who found themselves in the criminal justice system. I knew then that I wanted to practice law as I felt it would be a challenging career and a way that I could help the community. My final semester, I attended a seminar program at The American University and interned with the Department of Justice in the litigation section of the Antitrust Department. After graduation, I worked as a legal assistant for a solo practitioner in Washington D.C. who practiced personal injury law and I knew this was the practice area for me combining my fascination with the law with my desire to help people.

In the fall of 1984 I entered the Law School of William and Mary and graduated in 1987. Following law school, I spent a year in Virginia Beach, Virginia practicing with a private law firm in the areas of personal injury and family. Subsequently, I returned to my home in Northern Virginia to practice law where I have practiced for most of my career. I was managing partner in the firm of Cyron, Miller & Lang in Alexandria, Virginia where I practiced for 12 years. My practice there consisted of representing both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury cases as well as in the litigation of business and employment matters.

Looking for another area in which to raise our children, my husband and I moved to North Carolina in 2003. For approximately a year and a half, I concentrated my practice in products liability and mass torts. In January, 2005, I began working with James Scott Farrin in the Litigation Department representing injured people. I have watched over the years how people’s lives can be devastated as the result of an injury. I find satisfaction in assisting people who have been injured through no fault of their own obtain appropriate compensation for their injuries. Having represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of legal matters, I feel I have a broad background and am able to see both sides of the coin which makes me better able to represent our clients and guide them as they deal with insurance companies and the legal process. I have found that the practice of personal injury law combines the challenges of practicing law with my desire to work with and help people. My parents instilled in me a strong work ethic which I bring to my practice along with my true compassion for people.
