Lee A. Caplan

I am a Terp-Heel: a Marylander by birth and a North Carolinian by choice. In 2000 I moved with my wife and children to Chapel Hill from Frostburg, Maryland. From 1985 to 1995, I worked as an associate in the law firm of Sullivan & Sullivan, P.A. in Cumberland, Maryland. From 1995 to 2000, I successfully managed the Law Office of Lee A. Caplan, P.A., in the beautiful Appalachian mountains of far western Maryland and the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia.

I closed my practice and relocated to the Triangle when my wife and I realized, despite the wonderful quality of life available in rural Maryland, our children needed a better opportunity than was available in Maryland. We searched the nation for a progressive, well-funded school system in a small town with metropolitan amenities and settled on Chapel Hill–Carrboro.

We love living here. We enjoy the four-season climate but especially the Carolina “weather dividend” of longer summers and shorter winters compared to what we experienced in the central Appalachians. My family has taken advantage of many cultural, recreational and educational opportunities available here which were not readily available where we used to live.

I joined the Firm in 2000. In addition to my North Carolina licensure, I practice law in Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. I have had the opportunity to try many cases before judges, juries and administrative agencies. My nearly 20 years of litigation practice will be useful to you whether your claim is settled or has to be taken to court.

I meet people stressed by lack of funds due to sudden injury or debilitating disease. Sometimes the people I meet are suffering the most desperate time of their lives. If you are in a similar circumstance I may be able to help you take advantage of opportunities that may be provided by the law. Similarly I may help you navigate roadblocks imposed by the law, the insurance industry and the Government. You have enough to bear just recovering from or adapting to the injuries or diseases that have disrupted your life. You do not have to endure direct contact with insurance company employees or government bureaucrats whose primary obligation is to save money for their employers.

The most important part of my job is allowing you an opportunity to focus on medical healing. At the same time I will use my maximum effort and skill to try to get the financial compensation you may deserve.
