Street Racing Suspect Gets Bond Revision

Posted by: Attorney Michael Jordan

A Mecklenburg County, NC woman under house arrest while awaiting trial in a street racing case recently has been given permission to leave her home to attend church and doctors’ appointments.

The woman has been charged with three counts of murder following an incident where she allegedly was racing another North Carolina resident on N.C. 49. Both drivers had topped speeds of 100 mph. The driver she was racing crashed into the back of a third vehicle while entering the highway. The driver of the third vehicle, as well as her 2-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old passenger, died as a result of the crash. Both of the alleged racers were released on bond, however, the woman’s 15 prior speeding violations caused a judge to order a high bond amount and place her on house arrest. As part of her house arrest, she is not allowed to drive, but she was recently granted permission to attend doctors’ appointments and church, where she used to be a Sunday School teacher.
