A 49 year old bicyclist was injured after being struck by a pickup truck in Bertie County, North Carolina on March 24 at 8:04 p.m. The accident occurred near Windsor when a 1995 Dodge pickup truck and a Schwinn bicycle were both traveling north on NC 45 from Old Merry Hill Road. The pickup truck struck the bicycle, which ran off the road to the right and overturned, ejecting the bicyclist in the process. The police report noted that the bicycle rider was wearing flashing red lights in both the front and rear of his clothing. The bicyclist was clearly injured. He was transported by Bertie County EMS to Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor. The Dodge driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
