A drunk driving accident injured two people in Nash County, North Carolina on March 21 at 7:52 a.m. The accident occurred near Rocky Mount, NC when a 2000 Mazda was traveling east on NC 97, lost control, traveled left of center, collided with a ditch and struck a culvert. The driver continued by going airborne after impact and landed on its right side before overturning several times. The Mazda came to rest upright after impact. The driver gave a voluntary statement that she was traveling west, swerved to miss a deer and lost control. One witness said he observed the Mazda swerve to miss a deer. However, the trooper at the scene observed no swerve marks or brake marks to prove the driver swerved because of a deer. Instead he cited the driver for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Nash County (NC) EMS treated the driver and his sole passenger at the scene for minor injuries. Damage to the Mazda was estimated at $4,500.
