The 37-year-old driver of a vehicle in which a 26-year-old North Carolina woman was killed was charged with driving while impaired.
The couple was riding in a 1995 Cadillac when he lost control of the car, which ran off the left shoulder and overturned in a creek. The driver was able to get out of the car, but the passenger was trapped and had to be removed by emergency personnel. She died later that afternoon at Gaston Memorial Hospital
The driver was also taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
