Man Dies in Outer Banks’ Rip Current

A 50-year-old San Francisco resident drowned on Sept. 18 after being caught in a rip current off Mirlo Beach in Rodanthe, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He was pulled from the water, but died at Outer Banks Hospital.

The man was swimming with two other people, who were rescued by a family member.

Jones County (NC) Man Dies in Fatal Truck Accident

A 46-year-old Pollocksville, NC man died on Sept. 22 while traveling south on U.S.. 17 in Jones County. The accident occurred around 10 a.m. when the man lost control of his car, swerved left of center and was struck by a tractor trailer.

Hearing Set for Fatal Parasailing Accident

The Coast Guard will conduct three days of hearings this week about a deadly parasailing accident that claimed the lives of two women at Ocean Isle Beach on Aug. 28. at a North Carolina beach last month.

The crew of the parasailing vessel Tied High and several of its passengers have been called to give statements, among others.

The two women died of blunt force trauma when a rope connecting the parasail to the boat disconnected.

Officials say the Coast Guard will use the findings to improve safety, not to assess civil or criminal responsibility.
