Police officer, two motorists injured in NJ commercial truck accident

Tractor-trailer truck driver cited for making unsafe lane change

08/20/08

On July 24, 2008, two motorists and an on-duty police officer were injured in a car accident caused by a tractor-trailer truck driver in West Deptford, New Jersey.

The police officer had pulled a 45-year-old man over for an alleged motor vehicle violation on Interstate 295 and was writing a ticket inside his patrol car at the time of the tractor-trailer truck accident. The driver of the truck made a sudden lane change, forcing a car off the road. This car then hit the police cruiser, and then the car that the police officer pulled over.

The police officer was trapped in his vehicle as a result of the commercial truck accident. He had to be cut from the wreckage of the police cruiser before he was transported to an area hospital, where he stayed overnight as a precaution. The two car drivers were also injured and were transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the truck in the tractor-trailer truck accident received a ticket for making an unsafe lane change.
