Seven-car accident near Asheville, NC kills toddler
Three people in critical condition after tractor-trailer truck hit SUV
On July 1, 2008, traffic was stopped on Interstate 40 near Asheville, North Carolina, while crews trimmed trees along the highway. A tractor-trailer truck hit the back of a stopped vehicle, which set off a chain-reaction. Seven vehicles were involved in the car accidents, and 11 people were treated for injuries.
Authorities said a 1-year-old toddler was in the fifth vehicle in the line of seven involved, and was killed in the car accidents. Three others were in critical condition from injuries sustained in the car accident.
