Police officer seriously injured after car hit by tractor-trailer truck
Commercial truck side-swiped patrol car while on duty

On June 18, 2008, an on-duty police officer was driving on U.S. 231 in Pell City, Alabama, when a tractor-trailer truck hit the driver’s side of the patrol car. The police officer was seriously injured in the truck accident, and was airlifted to an area hospital with injuries requiring surgery.
Authorities are not releasing an official cause of the tractor-trailer truck accident, though Alabama State Troopers are investigating.
