Our Workers' Compensation Team
Our workers' compensation lawyers include a former Special Deputy Commissioner and a former Deputy Commissioner of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, former insurance defense attorneys with experience at major North Carolina defense law firms, and a workers' compensation lawyer who is also experienced with the interaction of Social Security and workers' compensation laws in cases of serious work-related injuries and industrial illnesses. Michael Mackay Mr. Mackay is a workers' compensation attorney and is a Board Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation Law. Mr. Mackay also serves as the head of the workers' compensation team at James Scott Farrin. He worked for one of the largest insurance defense firms in the state before becoming a respected workers' compensation lawyer on the injured workers' side of the table.
Doug Berger Mr. Berger is a workers' compensation lawyer who served as a Deputy Commissioner with the North Carolina Industrial Commission for 10 years. In that capacity he issued over 600 opinions and workers' compensation awards. Mr. Berger also currently serves as a North Carolina Senator for the Seventh District.
Matthew Harbin Mr. Harbin is a workers' compensation attorney who is a Board Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation Law and served as a Special Deputy Commissioner with the North Carolina Industrial Commission before joining James Scott Farrin.
Jennifer S. Shapiro Ms. Shapiro is a board-certified specialist in workers' compensation law and one of the attorneys at our law firm that makes first contact with our clients regarding their workers' compensation, personal injury and social security disability cases. A native North Carolinian, she has many years of experience in criminal, personal injury, and workers' compensation law.
Rick W. Fleming Mr. Fleming is a board-certified specialist in social security disability law. His areas of practice include social security disability, workers' compensation, car accidents, and other personal injury and disability cases. Fluent in Spanish, he has assisted many Latino members of our North Carolina community.
Barry Jennings Mr. Jennings joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin as a workers' compensation lawyer in the winter of 2006 and is a board-certified specialist in workers' compensation law. Prior to joining our firm he worked for an insurance defense firm and enjoys helping the working people of North Carolina.
