Baycol (cerivastatin) is a cholesterol-lowering drug belonging to a class of drugs known as statins. All users of statin drugs to lower cholesterol levels run the risk of rhabdomyolysis, a rare but usually fatal severe adverse muscle reaction, but Baycol was associated with significantly more reports of deaths due to rhabdomyolysis.

The FDA announced on August 8, 2001 that Bayer AG was voluntarily withdrawing Baycol from the U.S. market. The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin was involved in a major class action campaign involving people injured by the drug Baycol.
