AARP drops opposition to cuts in Social Security benefits

The American Association for Retired Persons (AARP) has dropped its longstanding opposition to cuts in Social Security benefits. An article in the Wall Street Journal noted that the decision was not made easily. But the Board of Directors believed that cuts would be made and AARP wanted to be at the table when that happened.

2 teens, 10 year old, injured in three car Wilson, North Carolina car accident

Two teenagers and a 10 year old girl were injured in a three car accident in Wilson County, North Carolina on March 13 at 4:52 p.m. The accident occurred in the City of Wilson, NC when a 1990 Isuzu was traveling north along Radford Road, failed to yield at a stop sign, and entered the intersection of Radford Road and Wiggins Mill Road. At this point it was struck by a 2004 Dodge which was traveling west through the intersection from Wiggins Mill Road. The impact of the collision sent the Isuzu into southbound lane of Radford Road, where it collided with a 2000 Ford. The Isuzu's three passengers — aged 10, 13 and 18 — were clearly injured, while the Dodge driver was potentially injured. All four were transported by Wilson County EMS to Wilson Medical Center in Wilson, NC. The Isuzu driver was cited for a safe movement violation. Damage to the Isuzu was estimated at $3,500; damage to the Dodge, $4,000 and damage to the Ford, $1,000.

Woman injured in Hertford, North Carolina car accident

A 21 year old Gates woman was injured in a two car accident in Perquimans County, North Carolina on Feb. 19 at 2:34 p.m. The accident occurred near Hertford when a 1996 Buick was attempting to make a left turn from Burgess Road onto Harvey Point Road and collided with a 1995 Toyota which was traveling north on Harvey Point Road. The impact of the collision caused the Toyota to travel off the road to the right, strike a ditch, overturn and come to rest in the ditch. The 21 year old Toyota driver was clearly injured and was taken by Perquimans County EMS to Chowan Hospital in Edenton. The Buick driver was cited for failure to yield right of way. Damage to the Toyota was estimated at $4,000; damage to the Buick, $2,000.
