On May 23, 2007, Nissan North America Inc. issued a warning for consumers with Intelligent-Keys (I-Key) for the 2007 Altima Sedan and 2007 Infiniti G35. The automaker alerted customers that some cell phones are erasing codes for the keys.
“When this happens, the I-Key will not start the vehicle and cannot be reprogrammed,” the statement said.
Only a specific type of cell phone marketed by a particular carrier is affecting the keys, but a spokesman for Nissan declined to specify those cell phones.
If some cell phones are allowed to touch the I-Key while sending or receiving a call, it may alter its electronic code. Nissan said the company is developing a modified I-Key, which will be available in the fall, to combat the problem.
