Lexington teenager killed in single-car accident

On April 1, 2008, a 17-year-old Lexington, North Carolina teenager was killed in a single-car accident on N.C. Highway 109, just north of Troy, and the driver of the car now faces charges of driving while impaired (DWI).

The driver of the car, a 26-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer at about 55 miles-per-hour under rainy conditions when he lost control of the car, striking two trees before coming to rest in a yard off the roadway.

The car was carrying three passengers in addition to the driver. A 20-year-old in the front seat was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, as was the driver. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the car accident.

The two passengers in the back of the car, who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the car at the time of the car accident. The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident. The other passenger, a 19-year-old, was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he was in critical condition.

In addition to DWI charges, the driver of the car faces an alcohol restriction violation, and more charges are possible as the investigation of the car accident continues.

Now Moseley’s father, 52-year-old Terry Moseley has been charged with three counts of giving alcoholic beverages to an underage person, two counts of aiding and abetting an underage person possessing alcoholic beverages and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Also facing charges are Stephen Dale McBride, 52, his wife, Sandra McBride, 45, and their son, Stephen Lee McBride, 21, of Walnut Cove. Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) charged them with one count each of giving alcoholic beverages to an underage person and one count of aiding and abetting an underage person possessing alcoholic beverages. “The number of parents involved was extremely unusual,” ALE District Supervisor Alan Fields said. “In 20 years (on the job) I don’t think I have ever seen three parents involved like this.” Emily Moseley was killed when Oakley lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet sedan and overcorrected on Lauren Road in Rockingham County, North Carolina after midnight. The car hit an embankment and flipped several times before stopping in a ditch. Emily Moseley, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown through the rear windshield of the car and killed. Trooper B.W. Earles, who investigated the wreck, estimated Oakley was traveling 80 miles-per-hour before he lost control. The speed limit on the road is 55 miles-per-hour. 16-year-old Taylor Moseley, Emily’s sister, was injured but was treated and released. Investigators say Terry Moseley bought the three teens alcohol at a Greensboro ABC store several hours before the car accident. The teens drank the alcohol and took Xanax while driving from the ABC store to a party at the McBride family’s house in Rockingham County. There, Oakley took more pills and continued to drink. At about 11:30 p.m., the teens left the party. The fatal DWI accident occurred about two hours later. Oakley has been charged with driving under the influence, a provisional license violation, driving left of center, and careless and reckless driving. Terry Moseley has a scheduled court date in Greensboro on September 24, 2007. The MrBrides have a court date in Danbury on September 26, 2007.
