Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
One of the most common occupational diseases suffered by workers' compensation and personal injury claimants is carpal tunnel syndrome, a repetitive strain injury that can occur in many occupations where continual, repetitive action of the wrists and hands is required.
Tendons and ligaments at the wrist can become enlarged as a result of repetitive aggravation, usually from inflammation. The enlarged tendons and ligaments squeeze the median nerve that runs from the forearm to the hand in the "carpal tunnel." Carpal tunnel syndrome, or CTS, occurs when this median nerve that runs from the forearm to the hand becomes squeezed at the wrist. The narrowed tunnel of inflamed tendons and ligaments then pinches the nerves that reach to the fingers and muscles at the base of the thumb.
The consequences of CTS include pain, weakness, numbness, and a tingling sensation in the hands and wrists and can develop into difficulty making a fist or gripping things. Symptoms may first appear at night when the hands and wrists are at rest. Some instances of CTS can require surgery to treat or result in permanent injury.
If you are suffering any of the following symptoms, you should consider seeing your medical doctor as soon as possible to investigate the possibility of CTS:
- numbness and tingling in the hands, especially occurring at night and after use of the hands
- decreased feeling in your thumb, index, and long finger
- an electric-like shock or tingling sensation in your hand
- if holding your wrists in a bent down position for approximately one minute reproduces the symptoms

Why Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?
If you are seeking a personal injury lawyer you have come to the right place. We know that accidents and injuries are an inevitable part of life, but the fact that accidental mishaps are common does not resolve the pain and suffering accidents can cause. This is especially true if that injury could have been avoided. For example, some drugs are not completely tested for safety or removed from the market despite concerns about them. Some products are found to be dangerous.
If you or a loved one have suffered in an accident, from taking a dangerous drug, using a recalled product or from any other cause, you may be thinking about how to protect your legal rights by consulting with a personal injury attorney. Learning about personal injury litigation, and cases we are currently investigating, may help you determine whether you need the counsel of an experienced personal injury lawyer from a firm such as the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.
