What is Workers' Compensation? Do I Need an Attorney?
In North Carolina, "Workers' Compensation," or, “Workmen’s Compensation,” usually refers to The North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act. Other common spellings or abbreviations of Workers’ Compensation include: “worker comp” or “workers comp,” “workman comp,” and even simply, “WC.” The North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act is a legal system that protects the rights of workers in North Carolina who become injured while on the job. Each state has its own set of workers' compensation laws detailing the specific benefits to which an injured person may be entitled. This set of laws usually details the procedures a worker must follow in order to obtain "worker's comp" benefits. A workers' compensation lawyer is trained to navigate these complex legal systems on behalf of injured workers. In North Carolina, the laws governing Workers’ Compensation can be so complex, the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization began certifying North Carolina lawyers as legal specialists in 1987. The Board was established to create a method by which qualified North Carolina lawyers might become certified as specialists in designated areas of the law. One such area of law is that of Workers’ Compensation. Our firm is fortunate to have three Board Certified Specialists in Workers’ Compensation Law. |
