Ally Powers, Human Resources Director

In 2014, when Ally joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin as Human Resources Manager, the firm had 135 employees. Today, Ally is Human Resources Director and responsible for all HR concerns for the more than 200 employees who work for the firm.

“I knew how to write a resume by the time I was 13,” Ally jokes. “My mother was a career HR executive, and I was fascinated by the endless scope of her position, so at an early age, HR had me at hello. While I enjoy administering and keeping up with the benefits and the compliance side of things, I feel especially gratified when I am able to help someone find their career ‘sweet spot.’ It is a win-win for the individual and for the company.”

Ally is a listener, a leader, an educator, and a strategic thinker. While her role as HR Director is multi-faceted and evolutionary, she would tell you she has one thing in mind when she comes to work every day: To recognize, hire, and retain quality professionals who care passionately about the firm and its success.

To that end, she develops and implements strategic goals and initiatives related to:

  • Performance management
  • Compliance and policy
  • Benefits selection and administration
  • Full-cycle recruiting, hiring, and onboarding
  • Company culture initiatives

Ally is not only a stellar ambassador in our outside recruiting efforts, she created, developed, and administers two separate professional development programs for future leaders within the organization.

Additionally, Ally is responsible for supporting the firm’s communal fabric by implementing a wide variety of wellness, self-improvement, and social groups firm-wide, and community service committees that help encourage the Farrin culture of community service.


Ally has redesigned and streamlined all HR-related processes, procedures, and business areas to industry-recognized best practices. This includes recruiting and orientation, benefits evaluation and implementation, personnel matters, and state-of-the-art HR software implementation.

Ally is passionate about her role, the firm, and about sharing her passion. She says, “It starts at the top with Jim Farrin. He is so deeply involved in this firm and works closely with HR to make this a phenomenal place to work. We don't want to be a place someone comes to collect a paycheck – we want our best assets, our employees, to create meaningful and lasting connections with their colleagues.”

Ally received her B.A. in political science from High Point University in High Point, NC. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and has volunteered with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 2009.
