A former White House photographer, 77, who traveled with five U.S. presidents, died Sept. 14 at the scene of a two-car wreck in Hendersonville.
His wife, also 77, a passenger in the car, died the next day at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Just before 3 p.m., an 18-year-old driver in a Ford Ranger truck traveling North on Howard Gap Road crossed the center yellow line and struck the photographer’s Toyota Avalon head on. The truck overturned and caught on fire.
The car’s driver was flown to Mission Hospital. Her only passenger, a 21-year-old male, was taken to Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville. Because of the accident public school buses were diverted from their routs along Howard Gap Road on Sept. 14.
The crash in under investigation and charges are pending.
