Attorney Daniel R. Lehrer

Daniel Lehrer joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2019 as a committed attorney with extensive experience handling workers’ compensation, personal injury, and Social Security Disability cases. He is a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in workers’ compensation law, a distinction held by less than 1% of attorneys licensed to practice in North Carolina,* and he currently focuses exclusively on helping injured employees in workers’ compensation cases.

As a child, Daniel and his family lived in Maryland, Florida, and Ohio before settling in Forsyth County, North Carolina for his high school years. He graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Psychology and worked as a chef at an international chain steakhouse in Durham for several years. After joining the restaurant’s travel team of food trainers and opening one of the restaurants in Australia, Daniel returned to the States and began his journey towards becoming an attorney.

The Path to Law

Daniel’s first step towards helping others with a career in law involved writing Social Security Disability legal briefs for a national law firm in their Raleigh office. He continued working there full-time during his first two years in the evening program at North Carolina Central University School of Law and then delved into workers’ compensation law as a paralegal at a different firm during the last two years of the program.

After earning his law degree, Daniel accepted a position as a workers’ comp attorney at the same firm and spent several years helping injured employees navigate the system and seek needed benefits and compensation for their on-the-job injuries. Ultimately, he brought his considerable negotiating skills and workers’ comp experience to the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.

Daniel became an attorney because he believes everyone is entitled to equality and justice and deserves counsel in navigating the intricacies of the legal system. He chose the workers’ compensation practice area because it allows him to do “a little bit of everything,” from actively investigating a case to negotiating with employers and insurance companies to litigating in court, when necessary.

“I Like to Fix Things and Make Them Better”

Daniel is a natural problem-solver, and this tendency strengthens his abilities as an attorney. While understanding that the workers’ comp system has its flaws, he feels strongly that it is his responsibility to help his clients try to make the most of their situations. He is methodical in his approach and enjoys the challenge of investigating cases and guiding his clients on how to seek maximum compensation.

He is driven by a desire to help injured workers be treated fairly by their employers and their insurance companies, and his efforts have been recognized by his peers. In 2024, he was named to the “Best Lawyers in America” list for workers’ compensation by Best Lawyers in America after being selected for the publication’s “Ones to Watch” list for the previous three years.4

Daniel is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Wake County Bar Association, and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.

“I Have Two Speeds – Off and On”

Daniel’s innate desire to “make things better” plays out at home too. Married and the father of two young boys, he channels his energy into fixing things around the house and building things for the kids. He continues to employ his cooking skills as the chef of the household and also spends time woodworking and “tinkering” on cars (on his 2-post car lift) in his garage.
