“Pressure is a privilege. My goal is not to avoid challenges. My goal is to solve them. The courage to practice law—for me—is not about winning or losing. It is about the fearlessness to absorb our clients’ challenges and try to solve them. Sometimes you just have to lace up, show up, and get to work.”
Attorney Donald C. Clack
Attorney Donald C. Clack joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2022 handling personal injury cases. He works tirelessly for our clients, and to know what drives him means knowing his interesting path to law.
Born in Columbus, Georgia, Donald attended the University of Georgia and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration before settling into a sales job. After three years in sales, he took on a new challenge – he joined the U.S. Army.
In the Army, he served as an Airborne Infantryman, spending six years at Fort Bragg. He then took a private security position overseas, but it didn’t call to him. The question was, what direction would he choose?
“Short answer? Law picked me.”
With his service in the Army came the opportunity to attend school again, but on the Army’s dime. Law was attractive, and the more Donald explored degrees and programs, the more he saw practicing law at the top of the list.
“The Army taught me about service. As I was transitioning to a new chapter, I knew that was something I wanted to continue. Law appeals to the sense of justice, responsibility, and stewardship that were sharpened by my Army service.”
Inspiration in the Family and Beyond
Donald draws on the strength of his supportive wife Stephanie, but he also has a brother. Donald is an identical twin, though many don’t know it. On their 12th birthday, his brother went into a coma from which he has not recovered. He remains bedridden and requires constant care.
“It’s not something I talk about often because I don’t want people to see me as a victim. His condition has shaped me in more ways than I can probably imagine. I don’t get to see him often but, when I do, his smile lights up the room. To be in that situation and still maintain a smile reminds me that life is what we make it.”
He’s also daily motivated by the clients he interacts with – people who may be in a terrible situation, but who persevere. People who may be struggling, but make the effort to push through. Their determination in the face of adversity motivates him. Donald revels in taking the challenges of a case off their shoulders and helping them move forward.
Hard Work for Clients Who Need Help
As a personal injury attorney, Donald sees the clients who are often most in need of help. “I chose this specific area of practice to help people who are in a tough spot.” He approaches his duty to clients with tenacity honed by training, but the flexibility and fluidity to adapt to – and try to overcome – obstacles to success.
Donald’s stated goal is to “leave the world better than I found it,” which also explains his drive to practice law and represent those who could suffer worse outcomes without representation. He’s a tireless advocate and comfortable being himself – an authenticity clients tend to notice.
Donald resides in Raleigh with his lovely wife Stephanie and their handsome dogson, Hudson. He enjoys reading and, when there’s time, a round of golf. They keep him grounded. He points to a quote from Abraham Lincoln – “Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.”
