Certified Mediator for Civil Superior Court

Attorney Julie Wallis Gugenheim

Julie Gugenheim is a seasoned attorney with a strong background in civil litigation, dedicated to advocating for those whose voices might otherwise go unheard.

Born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, Julie is the oldest of four children. Her passion for the legal profession was sparked by two family members who were lawyers. Julie earned a B.S. in Political Science from Florida State University prior to attending Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama, where she earned her law degree.

A Distinguished Career Defined by Diverse Litigation Successes

Julie’s professional journey has spanned various critical roles, including tenure as an Assistant District Attorney in Denton, Texas, where she successfully tried numerous felony and misdemeanor criminal jury trials to verdict.1

After almost five years in the DA’s Office, Julie practiced as a senior trial attorney at a large insurance company in Dallas, handling all phases of civil litigation, conducting numerous depositions and mediations, and achieving verdicts in numerous first-chair civil jury trials.1 Now, she uses this “other side experience” to help injured people fight for maximum compensation for the harms and losses they have suffered due to the negligence of others.

Julie moved eastward to Raleigh, North Carolina to be closer to her family after spending nearly a decade in Texas. In the Tar Heel State, she continued as an insurance defense attorney for a few years before joining her husband in a family firm dedicated to assisting the elderly population and their families in cases involving negligence in nursing home and assisted living facilities.

For more than two decades, Julie managed all phases of civil litigation for her vulnerable clients, with an emphasis on particularly complex medical cases. She also became a Certified Mediator for Civil Superior Court Matters.

Now, at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, Julie focuses her time and considerable talents on seeking justice for those injured by the negligence of others.

A Client-Centered Approach Backed by Empathy

Julie considers it a privilege to represent and counsel people through their legal issues. She has genuine empathy for clients, especially those impacted by unspeakable losses and life-altering injuries, and she finds great fulfillment in guiding them through difficult times. She has seen how the litigation process, particularly settlement results, can offer a “missing piece” for acceptance and moving forward.1

Julie’s extensive experience as both defense counsel and a personal injury attorney has equipped her with a deep understanding of the “value drivers” in cases as she strives to achieve maximum results for her clients. She also focuses on clearly communicating with her clients and strives to diminish their stress by thoroughly explaining what to expect at each stage of their legal journey.

Making an Impact Outside the Office

Beyond her legal practice, Julie strives to make a positive impact in the lives of others in many other ways. Over the years, she has volunteered with Safe Child as a child facilitator, participated in various organizations supported by the Junior League of Raleigh, and contributed to Habitat for Humanity efforts in both Texas and North Carolina.

Outside the office, Julie cherishes time with family and friends and is an avid hiker who loves spending time outdoors in North Carolina. Her personal motto is: “Each day is a gift that is not to be squandered. Seize the day.” And she lives by it.
