Attorney Leila Hicks Jarmusz

Leila Hicks Jarmusz joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2017 as a personal injury attorney. A dedicated advocate for others, her legal experience also encompasses the practice area of Social Security Disability (including Veterans’ Disability). She is skilled at clearly communicating complex matters in injury law to her clients and fighting for them.

Leila grew up in Davie County and learned the value of hard work firsthand from her mother, a post-op nurse, and her father, a diesel mechanic and U.S. Army veteran. The only daughter of four children, Leila balanced her childhood passions between NY Mets baseball and dance.

For college, Leila enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill for their pre-law program. Leila, a first generation college graduate, was a double major in Political Science and Philosophy, with a minor in Social and Economic Justice. She chose to pursue her post graduate education as a Tar Heel and received her J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

“My goal as an attorney is to allow my clients to breathe easier because they have my help.”

Leila leads a team of attorneys and staff members who communicate with new and potential clients and present them with their rights and potential solutions to their legal issues. Leila sees clients as partners. Her team focuses on relieving stress for personal injury victims by explaining the benefits of representation and setting clear expectations of how the firm can fight for them.

“I want clients to come out of their circumstances with the best possible outcome.”

Leila recalls speaking with a few callers about a car accident and giving them advice on their options. Months later, they called back after family members had been involved in a serious crash. Leila was proud that the family put their trust in us because our firm engages clients with compassion and fairness.

Leila’s peers in the legal community have nominated her for several awards, including Best Lawyers in America’s “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch”4 list from 2021-2023 and National Black Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40”4 list in 2017. The North Carolina Bar Association honored her in 2021 with the “Charles Blanchard Young Lawyer of the Year Award,”* and she was inducted into the North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society in 2020.

Leilia and her husband and son live in Chapel Hill. She enjoys travel, and recent trips have included visiting wineries and (always the student) learning about different varietals. In her downtime, Leila is a mentor and Junior Leage volunteer, and she also calls on her dance skills when volunteering as a Special Olympics cheer coach.
