“I’m obsessed with connection – whether it’s creating campaigns that cut through the noise and speak straight to the heart, building teams that care deeply about their work and each other, or crafting spontaneous art on the dance floor.”

Joy Avila has been building a nationally-recognized brand in personal injury law for more than a decade. As Creative Director at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, one of the largest plaintiffs’ firms in North Carolina, she leads creative strategy across television, digital, direct mail, web, and experiential marketing.

When asked what motivates her, Joy said, “I’m obsessed with connection – whether it’s creating campaigns that cut through the noise and speak straight to the heart, building teams that care deeply about their work and each other, or crafting spontaneous art on the dance floor.”

When Joy joined the firm, its marketing department was small and its brand lacked cohesion. She helped turn it into a disciplined, high-performing engine. She defined the firm’s visual identity, set its brand standards, sharpened its core messaging, and built the sub-brands and messaging frameworks that still drive its growth.

Her work includes direct mail packages that converted at 24 times the typical rate, web content that draws tens of thousands of visitors a month, and campaigns that helped generate more than 4,000 leads per month. The Golden Gavel Awards have featured her team’s work nine times, including a winning testimonial video, and the team has earned several other industry honors for marketing excellence.

Joy is just as known for what she builds inside an organization. She helped create the firm’s cultural foundations, including the JSF Way, the internal magazine Vanity Farrin, and management training courses. Colleagues describe her as a leader who sees potential in people and pushes them to reach it.

She also believes great marketing runs on great technology. That focus led to her work with Jove, a case management platform for injury law firms, where she helped lead the company’s rebrand and continues to serve as a strategic advisor.

Known for her dynamic personality, Joy is highly respected by industry peers for her innovative law firm creative and marketing strategies. She has been a guest on personal injury industry podcasts and invited to speak at industry conferences. Her topics include brand building for law firms, creative that stands out in a crowded market, and building creative teams that love their work. Whether she’s on stage or in the room with her team, Joy brings full dedication to every endeavor.

A former collegiate soccer player and professional ballroom dancer, Joy brings discipline and grit to every challenge. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her daughters, coaching soccer, and salsa dancing with her husband.
