Have you experienced serious dental problems after taking Suboxone?

Sometimes drugs that help can also hurt. And when the manufacturer knew about the possibility of harm, you can seek compensation.

Suboxone and Dental Injuries: What to Know and Do

Have you experienced serious tooth decay, fractures, and tooth loss after taking Suboxone? Indivior, the manufacturer of Suboxone, developed and markets this drug as a treatment for opioid use disorder. For many patients, it represented hope for recovery.

However, a growing wave of lawsuits now alleges that Indivior and other manufacturers failed to warn patients about serious and permanent dental injuries associated with the drug.

If you, or a loved one, have suffered significant dental damage after using Suboxone, you may have legal options. For recommendations on what to do next with no obligation, call us at 1-866-900-7078 for your free case evaluation.

What Is Suboxone?

Suboxone is a prescription medication combining buprenorphine and naloxone which is used to treat opioid dependence by reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. It is administered as a sublingual film — a thin strip placed under the tongue that dissolves directly in the mouth.

While the drug has helped many patients manage opioid use disorder, the sublingual delivery method has been linked to severe and often irreversible dental injuries, even in patients with no prior history of dental problems.

Dental Injuries Linked to the Use of Suboxone

The central health concern in Suboxone litigation is the drug’s alleged association with severe dental deterioration. Some patients who used Suboxone reported the following dental injuries – despite routine dental hygiene:

  • rapid and significant tooth decay
  • cavities
  • crumbling or fracturing teeth
  • gum disease/oral infections
  • complete tooth loss

The acidic nature of the sublingual film is believed to erode tooth enamel over time, causing damage that is often irreversible and requires extensive and costly dental treatment.

In 2022, the FDA issued a safety communication warning about serious dental problems associated with buprenorphine-containing medications dissolved in the mouth, acknowledging hundreds of adverse event reports in its database.

Current Litigation About Suboxone

Thousands of personal injury claims across the country about severe dental injuries linked to Suboxone have been consolidated into a single federal court process in the Northern District of Ohio.

Multi-District Litigation (“MDL”) is how the court system handles situations where large numbers of people are harmed by the same product. All of the cases are managed together by one federal judge, which keeps things efficient and consistent. Your case is still yours – you’re just part of a larger, coordinated effort to hold these companies accountable.

As of May 2026, over 1,800 lawsuits are centralized in MDL 3092 – In Re: Suboxone (Buprenorphine/Naloxone) Film Products Liability Litigation.

Do You Have a Suboxone Case?

  • experienced significant dental injuries, including severe tooth decay, tooth fractures, tooth loss, or gum disease (especially if you had no prior history of dental problems)
