Attorney Vanderweert Receives NC’s Highest Designation for Workers’ Compensation Law

Susan Vanderweert, an attorney with the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, achieved the NC legal industry’s highest level of specialization as a North Carolina Board-certified specialist in workers’ compensation law.

Susan Vanderweert, an attorney with the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, was recently certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a specialist in worker’s compensation law.

Board certification is the highest level of specialization available for the legal industry in North Carolina. Only 0.5% of lawyers in NC are board certified workers’ compensation specialists, according to the North Carolina State Bar Association.*

Vanderweert has more than 12 years of experience in workers’ compensation law. She earned her J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill, a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Duke University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The North Carolina State Bar certifies accomplished lawyers as specialists in their designated practice areas as a service to the public. The program assists members of the public in the selection of legal counsel by identifying lawyers who have demonstrated special knowledge, skill, and proficiency in certain areas of law. The program also gives lawyers a credible way of making their expertise known to the public and other lawyers.

Vanderweert said, “I want to give my clients the best representation possible. Studying for and passing the board certification exam in workers’ compensation law took my practice to the next level. I learned a lot about areas of the law that don’t come up in regular every day practice, but can be very useful. Becoming board certified provides my clients with greater assurance that they are receiving quality representation.”

To be certified as a specialist in a practice area, a lawyer must have been in practice for at least five years, devote a significant part of his or her practice to the specialty, be favorably evaluated by other lawyers and/or judges, and pass a written examination in the specialty practice area.

Vanderweert is one of seven North Carolina Board Certified lawyers out of more than 35 lawyers at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.*

James S. Farrin, president and founder of the firm, said, “Susan’s recent certification is certainly well earned and well deserved. She’s a tireless devotee for our workers’ compensation clients, and we couldn’t be more proud to have her advocating on their behalf.”
