Collect Goods for Ronald McDonald House of Durham
Employees at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin sponsored a Cup O’ Chili Chow Down on Friday, March 2 to raise money and collect kitchen items for the Ronald McDonald House of Durham.
Employees at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin sponsored a Cup O’ Chili Chow Down on Friday, March 2, to raise money and collect kitchen items for the Ronald McDonald House of Durham.
Seven different types of chili were prepared for the event – including mild and spicy varieties, meat and vegetarian, and beef and chicken. The cost of admission was either a donation to the Ronald McDonald House or a new kitchen item, such as utensils, towels and pot holders, measuring cups and appliances.
“The Ronald McDonald House is undergoing renovations, which will include upgrades to their kitchen and the addition of several suites that will be equipped with kitchenettes,” explained attorney Tara Williams, a shareholder with the firm and chair of the firm’s social service committee. “We hope that the items we collected will help with this upgrade to enhance the experience of the guests staying at the Ronald McDonald House.”
Williams said the firm collected enough items to create a spring and fall kitchen collection, as well as monetary donations to buy more items.
The Ronald McDonald House was created to offer families around the world a place to stay when they have a child receiving medical treatment in a nearby hospital. The houses are designed to provide a homelike atmosphere with meals, private bedrooms and playrooms, as well as counseling and support.
Employees from the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin have been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House for several years, working in the kitchen, serving meals and raising money for its operations.
“The Ronald McDonald House has a special place in our hearts,” Williams said, explaining that firm employees have themselves relied on its services during times of need. “We want to support the work that they do in whatever way we can, so that they can continue to support families in need.”
