The nursing home industry claims the law gives them blanket immunity for any death during COVID -- even when the death was caused by negligence and had nothing to do with COVID. James Scott Farrin Partner Michael Roessler Appointed to NCBA's New Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee

February 10th, 2022: The North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) has appointed James Scott Farrin Partner Michael Roessler to its new Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Committee. Michael will work with SOGI towards its goal of securing full equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community in the NCBA, the legal profession, and society. Firm President and CEO James S. James Scott Farrin Attorney Ali Overby Receives Rare Workers' Compensation Certification

February 3rd, 2022: James Scott Farrin attorney Ali Overby is now a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in workers’ compensation law. She joins ten other firm attorneys who have met the heavy experience and skill requirements needed to be called North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialists in their fields. Ali joined James Scott Farrin in 2015, and enjoys being a resource for injured workers. “I love to use what I learned to help guide people. Farrin Fights North Carolina Nursing Home Immunity

January 25th, 2022: North Carolina’s “healthcare heroes” law, passed at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in March 2020, has provided the state’s nursing homes with blanket immunity from lawsuits – even if the case has nothing to do with COVID. “Under the law, facilities are getting a pass for situations that have nothing to do with COVID, and everything to do with neglect,” said attorney Elizabeth Todd, who leads the nursing home law practice at James Scott Farrin.
