Brian and his team focus on restoring clients’ peace of mind and litigate personal injury cases as needed. During his career, he has tried cases at multiple levels – including state Superior Courts, federal District Courts, tort claims before the N.C. Industrial Commission, and hearings before various state agencies. He also has argued for clients before the N.C. Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Determined to Be a Lawyer
Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Brian spent his earliest days playing outdoors with neighborhood friends. Indoors, he was a good, conscientious student, and he knew early on that he wanted to be a lawyer. As a high school student, he got the opportunity to witness a trial, and from that point on, he decided he was going to be an attorney.
Towards this goal, Brian headed northwest to Chapel Hill and majored in history at the University of North Carolina before enrolling at UNC School of Law. During one of the summers of law school, he worked in a U.S. Attorney’s office and was able to observe many trials firsthand. This experience, combined with an impressive performance in his trial advocacy class, cemented his desire to become a lawyer.
After earning his law degree, Brian clerked for two years for a U.S. District Judge in the Eastern District of North Carolina. He observed many top national attorneys try complex criminal and civil cases. Through this experience, he became even more interested in fighting for others’ rights in the courtroom.
Brian later joined a law firm where he defended insurance companies in various types of litigation. There he gained an invaluable understanding of insurance companies’ practices and tactics.
A Great Client Communicator
After more than a decade as a corporate and insurance defense attorney, Brian wanted to focus on advocating for regular people and helping clients stand up to intimidating opponents. That’s when he brought his considerable litigation skills, his “other side” experience, and client focus to the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.
Brian believes that honest communication is key to being an effective attorney, and this is evident in his interactions with clients. He strives to build a one-on-one connection with each person by listening, answering questions, and offering advice.
Brian uses hard work, litigation experience, and communication skills to fight for his clients. He has been recognized by his peers and named to the “Best Lawyers” list for Workers Compensation Law – Claimants from 2022 – 2024 by Best Lawyers in America.4 He is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Auto Torts and Workers’ Compensation Sections and the Bar associations of North Carolina and Wake County.
Relaxing at Home
Brian and his wife, an attorney at the NC Attorney General’s office, share a common interest in the law and enjoy exploring the city’s restaurants al fresco. Now empty nesters living in Raleigh, they have a daughter who lives nearby and a son in Chicago.
