Attorney Michael Williams

Giving Victims a Powerful Voice

Attorney Michael Williams joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2019 handling personal injury cases.

Michael earned his J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham. Prior to law school, he received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Before he joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, Michael spent over a decade practicing plaintiffs’ law in North Carolina, handling cases for personal injury, workers’ compensation, medical malpractice, and more.

Michael knew he wanted to become a lawyer and help people since he was five years old. His grandfather often spoke to him about Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and all that he had achieved for the civil rights movement through the justice system. Because of this, Michael was inspired to do all that he could for people who needed a voice.

“The great poet and author Maya Angelou once said, ‘I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.’ For me, throwing something back means to help even out the playing field for my clients by arming them with a powerful voice against the big insurance companies they never realized they had.”

Michael has been on both sides of the table. After graduating college, he worked as an insurance adjuster. After graduating law school, his first job as an attorney was to defend insurance companies against claims filed by their insureds or claimants. In other words, the insurance companies he used to defend are who he fights against now. As such, Michael has the ability to provide valuable perspectives from both sides — he can anticipate the arguments the insurance company will make because of his experience working for their side, and he knows how to defend against them.

As an experienced litigator, legal researcher, and advocate, Michael has the ability to see the big picture as well as the nuances and details of a case. He cultivates his relationships with his clients because he values how people are able to open up to him when they are at their most vulnerable. Above all else, he values being able to do all that he can for his clients to try to get them the justice they deserve.

Michael is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the Federal District Courts of Middle and Eastern North Carolina, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, and the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers.
